Their Dream
To build a home where the key spaces have beautiful views of the lake. Including the gym, master bedroom, living room, and their office. Their wish list also included a fireplace for the living room and a versatile, bonus room in the house.
Our Approach
The main challenge was ensuring all of those four key rooms shared that perfect view. So we designed a beautiful, long hallway that connected each space along the water-facing side of the house. We turned what could have been a simple corridor into a stunning feature, by lining it with bookshelves. To add some character and a cohesive feel in the hallway as well as the rest of the house, we added faux wooden beams.
We focused on the small details to make Brittany and Matt’s daily lives easier:
We placed the pantry adjacent to the garage and included a grocery hatch, so groceries can be unloaded directly from the car into the pantry.
A water closet was added to the master ensuite to allow for the sinks to be accessed while someone else is using the toilet or shower.
We designed three distinct storage areas: a mudroom with built-in cabinets for the family, a separate front entry with a bench and coat storage for guests, and a rear entry with storage for swimsuits and towels.
The Wins
A practical, welcoming home that looks beautiful, feels perfectly suited to their life today, and evolves with them A shared playroom was designed between the children's bedrooms, which can easily be converted into a homework area or TV room as they grow older. Space for built-in cabinetry was accounted for off of the dining room and on each side of the fireplace. This provided additional sound isolation between the office space and master bedroom. We used sound-isolating walls in the gym and office. In the gym, we added a trayed ceiling for taller equipment and a patio door for fresh air.
